A youth work-filled C.E.P. meeting

On February 23 and 24, representatives of a few member organisations of ECYC gathered in Belgium for this year’s first Chief Executives and Presidents (C.E.P.) meeting.

On the first day, the spotlight was on ECYC. Participants found out more about the work of the Secretariat since the last GA and the activities planned for this year, discussed what European youth work means to them and discovered which other members of ECYC are working on the same topics as they are (cause we are #BetterTogether, aren’t we?). Moreover, the Secretariat provided a few updates on European policies on youth work, particularly regarding the EU Youth Strategy and the Council of Europe Recommendation on Youth Work. In the afternoon, a networking event celebrating the diversity of youth work in Europe allowed participants to chat with representatives of the European Commission, the European Youth Forum and several international youth organisations.

On the second day, the group left for Antwerp, where they visited the youth clubs‘2050’ and ‘Kilalo’. Formaat, the federation of youth clubs in Flanders, presented its history, strategy and HR management, with the aim to provide ideas to the other federations of youth clubs on how to improve themselves. Altogether, members of ECYC then started a multiannual process to renew the organisation’s long-term strategy. Lastly, the group met with a consultant on youth from the city of Antwerp, who explained how the city supports municipal youth work.
